Nebraska Agenda                                             2023

December 12

8-8:30 Check-in
8:30-9  NDEE/Extension/NOWWA REPRESENTATIVES  .5 HRS
9-10      System Design 1 HR
An introduction to the design process.  Getting the required data to effectively complete a site-specific design.  Working with your customer to communicate their needs for system sizing and their responsibility for system care.
10-10:15 Break
10:15-11:15       Soils identification and application 1 HR
Evaluating the soil characteristics and their roles in system sizing and design is an important skill. Connecting soil texture, soil structure, soil perc rates, and soil color to understand the movement of water in a site is a critical tool for long-term system performance.
11:15-12:15  Soil Issues 1 HR
This will examine what soil characteristics will cause problems with proper system operation.  Is the soil saturated, will the soil accept effluent and will the system treat the effluent are all important questions for the designer. Identifying the problem and moving to a solution is a valuable skill as a designer and installer.
12:15-1  Lunch
1-2         System elevations 1 HR
The movement of effluent through the system is critical for the system to operate properly.  Being able to evaluate and record how the effluent will move, and the need for a pump to create the lift for the proper operation of the system are all ways that the designer and the installer will need to address proper system siting and performance.
2-2:15 Break
2:15-3:15    System Layout 1 HR
Having the required area and elevation is a big part but not the only piece of design.  Putting the system in the proper location and layout is an important factor for the system to operate long-term.  A couple of tools and reminders will help the design to meet all the local regulations and requirements.
3:15-4:15 Adding a Pump 1 HR
Sometimes a system needs a lift.  Choosing the right pump and pumping system is an important part of system design.  The process of pump selection and pump sizing is a skill necessary for a good design. Following proper installation, practices will make sure the system will operate as designed.

December 13

8-8:30 Check-in
8:30-9  NDEE/Extension/NOWWA REPRESENTATIVES  .5 HRS
9-10      System options 1 HR
The industry has evolved and multiple technologies are available for the system to operate properly.  Working through the options and technologies is a start for working through the decision process.  A quick overview will allow the exploration of these choices.
10-10:15 Break
10:15-11:15       Pressure distribution 1 HR
Using technology will require the use of pressure distribution for systems to perform as intended.  A review of the principles and an example will highlight the process of effective pressure distribution systems.
11:15-12:15       Using Media Filters 1 HR
One of the alternative technologies is Media filters.  They come in a number of designs and media choices.  An introduction to their application and design principles will take some of the confusion out of their applications and design.
12:15-1 Lunch
1-2         Using ATUs 1 HR
One of the alternative technologies is Aerobic treatment units [ATU].  They come in a number of designs and operational processes.  An introduction to their application and design principles will take some of the confusion out of their applications and design.
2-2:15 Break
2:15-3:15   Groundwater mounding 1 HR
With the application of technology and the use of tougher sites, understanding groundwater mounding will help designers avoid problems.  A working concept and modeling tool will allow designers to estimate the potential mounding issues and values of reduction of separation.

Total = 12 hrs

Fill out the necessary information and this will take you to your page. Please check that page frequently and do not wait until November in the 2nd year of the cycle.  We do offer classes in December, but given the weather that time of year we cannot guarantee 100% that the class will happen and we do not reschedule.  We do not want you to have to retest if you don't have to.

NOWWA offers 12 hours of classes each year at the Nebraska Water Industries Annual Convention in February, plus we have classes that are offiererd in various parts of the state throughout the year.  Please subscribe to our email news letter or check back on this site regularly.  Also log in to make sure your contact information is current.
