Understanding the processes that treat the wastewater in our Onsite treatment systems is the start of understanding how to make the systems operate better.  It also allows for the identification of site concerns and solving those concerns with proper system application.

10:45 am Proper Installation         1.5 hours
Understanding the steps to make sure the designed system will operate properly is the start of good installation practices.

1:00 pm Soil Problems          1.5 hours
Understanding the proper identification of site characteristics and soil properties that allow for proper system operation.  Some of these site and soil characteristics can add challenges to the system's operation.  Identifying these situations is the start to properly solving them.

2:45 pm Adding technology for Solving Problems   1.5 hours
Understanding the proper application of the additional technologies can make it clearer where the technology fits.  Our conventional systems can work on many sites but certain users and sites may need some additional technology to create the best long-term solution.

9:00 am Designing Pressure distribution                  1 hour
Understanding the proper application and design of pressure distribution can be a really helpful tool in properly solving site problems.  Pressure distribution needs a little help and design for it to work best on all sites.

10:15 am Pump selection              1 hour
Understanding the proper sizing and application for pumps allows professionals to solve site situations for proper treatment.  Particularly when applying the new technologies pressurizing s=and lift the effluent becomes a bigger part of the system design.
11:15 am Using timers                   1 hours
Understanding the ability to store the effluent and apply it over time and resting the treatment can make systems perform better.  Working thru the design process and properly setting the timer can make systems perform better in the situations they are being applied.

1:00 Installing Technology             1.5 hours
Understanding the proper and additional steps for proper application and installation of new technologies can create a better performance of these technologies.

 About the Speakers

Dave Gustafson, PE is a registered Engineer
working in the Water Resource Center at 
The University of Minnesota. He has been dealing
with sewage for over 30 years in municipal
scale systems and backyard treatment
technologies. He has been educating and
assisting onsite treatment professionals in
MN, nationally and internationally for over 25
years. His position allows him to be active in
the troubleshooting and evaluation of systems
in MN and nationally. He has learned through
the years that we can learn from each other
and getting your hands dirty helps to keep your
thoughts clear.
